Biography

Emma Larsson is a visual artist born in Sweden in 1977. Since her teenage years, she had the chance to have her own art studio where she could create and express herself freely without the use of words. She now lives and works in Stockholm, with her husband and their five children.

Even though she went to art school for a few years, between drawing, painting, and sculpting, she

considers herself self-taught, an outsider, experimenting with all kinds of materials.  She is a creative explorer. Her work is in constant flow. It can be described as poetic, playful, contemplative, intuitive and intriguing.

For her, painting is about playing freely, without intellectualizing the process or the result. The creation comes from a flow of energy, memories of nature, and freedom. None of it is planned or determined, it is solely intuitive.  She describes her creative process as the synergy between the artist, the material, and an unknown presence that she calls “force”.  She is not analytic. Emma’s paintings are purely instinctive, they source from pleasure and freedom. She starts with a blank paper and follows the flow. In her spare time, she walks in the virgin forests surrounding the city she lives in. She finds most of her inspiration in nature’s shapes, colors, and patterns, leading to abstract and moving forms in her paintings.

In the last few years, Larsson gained exposure and interest from all over the world including those of art critics and renowned art collectors, such as the Frederick Weisman Art Foundation in Los Angeles.  So far, her works have been part of gallery exhibitions and art fairs in Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Luxemburg, UK, France, USA, Japan, and South Korea. She has done numerous collaborations in different mediums with high-profiled brands such as SOHO House London, H&M/COS, Rachel Comey, Artpieces, ShowStudio (Nick Night and Bex Cassie), Mortimer House London, Anamika Khanna and more.  Larsson has been featured in Wrap Magazine, Vogue Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar Magazine, WePresent by WeTransfer, Women's Health Magazine USA, REVS Magazine, Chor Data Magazine USA and more.

Over the years, she has been part of multiple group exhibitions in the United States, Europe and Asia. In September 2022, she had her first solo exhibition with Simard Bilodeau Contemporary in Los Angeles titled Percussion Dream, followed by a second solo exhibition in 2023 at Galerie DYES in Brussels.
