Gabriela Reyna (b. 1991) was born in Havana, Cuba. She graduated from University of Arts in Cuba in 2016, with a bachelors in Visual Arts. She currently lives and works in her birthplace.
Reyna’s work engages directly with feminine intimacy, exploring modes of traditionally feminine expression often through fashion and cosmetics. In this, she probes the relationship between the body and its appearance. She seeks to address and depict women not only in their beauty, but as social, cultural, and political beings.
Reyna has presented many solo shows in her native Cuba, and participated in group shows throughout the US, Europe, and South America. In 2023, Reyna won the "Espuela de Plata" scholarship awarded by the Mariano Rodríguez Foundation in collaboration with the Brownstone Foundation. She has completed two artistic residencies: the Molten Capital Residency in Santiago, Chile in 2017, and the RARO residency in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2018. Her work was exhibited during the Mediterranean Art Biennale as a part of the exhibition Videonale #1: Image of Happiness, a show dedicated entirely to female artists in video art. A multi-faceted artist, Reyna works across many mediums, including significant work in scenic art. She has worked as a designer for theater and dance companies in her native Cuba and internationally, including work for the Mexican-Colombian theater company Teatro de León.
